University Biomedical Services (UBS)

The PPL course is mandatory training for those who wish to hold a Project Licence. It covers the learning outcomes dictated by the Home Office and helps you understand the requirements for successful experimental design and prepare you for the responsibility of overseeing a project.

The course is delivered online only, using third party interactive resources and presentations created by experienced licencing staff from the University. The areas covered include:

  • Ethics and animal welfare
  • Design and management of projects
  • Severity assessment
  • Project Licence applications

This on-demand course means you can study when is most convenient for you rather than being tied to specific times. It also means that you can revisit the material as many times as you need to.

The cost of this course is £443.38 for internal applicants and £513.36 for externals applicants. £20 will also need to be included for the completion certificate.

All new potential PPL applicants/holders should be aware there is a requirement for you to complete the relevant PIL course for the work you intend to perform in your project licence. This is only the case if you are not already a PIL holder.
