Introduction to Necropsy Course

This half-day interactive course will introduce participants to both the theory and practical aspects of necropsy. Attendees will cover the importance of the task and consequences of incorrect technique, selection of the correct equipment, and basic anatomy and anatomical language. They will then learn the practical techniques to open up, identify, and remove organs and tissues from a rodent cadaver.

Performing a skilled necropsy is one that we all require at some stage during our career as an Animal Technician and it is so important we get right. A necropsy performed correctly means animals are not wasted and, as a result, contributes towards good science and good welfare.

The course is aimed at technicians who are new to taking tissues or have limited experience. It may also be a useful refresher for those who have received no formal training but have been carrying out the practical procedure for a while. For those requiring more extensive training in the handling of tissues, we will shortly be offering an Advanced Necropsy course. This will be a continuation of the skills learned in the introductory course and suitable for those having completed this. This course comes with 4 CPD points from the IAT for successful completion.

The full cost of this course is £122
