Alternatives to Laboratory Animals (ATLA) is published six times a year by FRAME (Fund for the Replacement of Animals in Medical Experiments). It is an international, peer-reviewed scientific journal, publishing articles on the latest research relating to the development, validation, introduction and use of alternatives to laboratory animals. ATLA reports on the latest news and events, reviews publications and products, and lists the most significant recent research papers.

ATLEX is edited by the Swiss Society ALTEX Edition, is the official journal of CAAT (the Johns Hopkins Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing), EUSAAT (the European Society for Alternatives to Animal Testing), t4, the Transatlantic Think Tank for Toxicology (Baltimore, Utrecht, Konstanz), and the Doerenkamp chairs in Germany, India, The Netherlands, Switzerland, and USA. ALTEX is devoted to the publication of research on the development and promotion of alternatives to animal experiments. ALTEX publishes original articles, short communications, and reviews, as well as news and comments, meeting reports, and book reviews. Animal experiments are defined by the editors as all experimental procedures involving the use of animals in testing, research, and education, or to obtain tissues, organs, and other animal derived products that may cause pain or distress to animals. In addition to covering the biomedical aspects of animal experimentation, ALTEX is devoted to the bioethics of the complex relationship between humans and animals. Articles published in ALTEX should convey a basic respect for the dignity of living creatures and a recognition of animals as our partners. Articles devoted to the social and ethical aspects of this topic will be judged according to stringent scientific standards. Manuscripts submitted to ALTEX are evaluated by two reviewers. The evaluation takes into account the scientific merit of a manuscript and the contribution to animal welfare and the 3Rs.

Animal Welfare is an international scientific and technical journal. It publishes the results of peer-reviewed scientific research, technical studies and reviewsrelating to the welfare of kept animals (eg on farms, in laboratories, zoos and as companions) and of those in the wild whose welfare is compromised by human activities. Papers on related ethical and legal issues are also considered for publication. The journal also includes letters to the editor, commentary on topical issues such as developments in legislation and codes of practice relating to animal welfare and book reviews. Generally, papers published in Animal Welfare are not available as 'open access' (available free to all) but through subscription to UFAW or 'pay per view' However, arrangements can be made for open access publication of papers where authors prefer this.

Applied Animal Behaviour Science is an international journal reporting on the application of ethology to animals managed by humans.  Topics covered include:

•Behaviour of farm, zoo and laboratory animals in relation to animal management and welfare
•Behaviour of companion animals in relation to behavioural problems, for example, in relation to the training of dogs for different purposes, in relation to behavioural problems
•Studies of the behaviour of wild animals when these studies are relevant from an applied perspective, for example in relation to wildlife management, pest management or nature conservation
•Methodological studies within relevant fields. The principal subjects are farm, companion and laboratory animals, including, of course, poultry. The journal also deals with the following animal subjects:•Those involved in any farming system, e.g. deer, rabbits and fur-bearing animals
•Those in ANY form of confinement, e.g. zoos, safari parks and other forms of display
•Feral animals, and any animal species which impinge on farming operations, e.g. as causes of loss or damage
•Species used for hunting, recreation etc. may also be considered as acceptable subjects in some instances
•Laboratory animals, if the material relates to their behavioural requirements 

Laboratory Animals is an international journal of laboratory animal science and welfare. Laboratory Animals publishes peer-reviewed original papers and reviews on all aspects of the use of animals in biomedical research. The journal promotes improvements in the welfare or well-being of the animals used, it particularly focuses on research that reduces the number of animals used or which replaces animal models with in vitro alternatives. 
 Laboratory Animals publishes papers dealing with all aspects of the use of animals in biomedical research, including: new animal models; laboratory animal microbiology; clinical case reports; descriptions of new or improved research techniques; reports on the influence of environmental and other variables on research results; descriptions of techniques which offer replacements for in vivo models; and basic data characterizing the haematology, biochemistry or pathology of new or existing animal models. Papers describing work which involves a reduction in the number of animals that need to be used; or which replace animals with in vitro alternatives; or which represent a significant refinement in methodology, leading to improvements in the welfare or wellbeing of the animals used, are especially encouraged.

Behavioural Neurology is a peer-reviewed, Open Access journal that publishes original research articles, review articles, and clinical studies in all areas of behavioural neurology. The most recent Impact Factor for Behavioural Neurology is 1.629 according to the 2015 Journal Citation Reports released by Thomson Reuters in 2016. Behavioural Neurology currently has an acceptance rate of 29%. The average time between submission and final decision is 49 days and the average time between acceptance and publication is 33 days.
