The South Cambridge rodent facility level 0 is able to house both mice and rats. It has a lower SPF status meaning that it is better suited to studies where animal exposure to a greater range of microflora will not impact the research. Our quarantine facilities are on this floor allowing for the import of mice and rats from external sources for transfer to other floors and facilities, once their SPF status is suitable. Outside of quarantining, this floor is used for shorter studies only.

  • Haematology

  • Metabolic Science

  • Cardiovascular Science

The following facilities and equipment are available for use:

  • Holding rooms

  • Experimental rooms with hypoxic chambers (owned by Cardiovascular department), class II hoods, heat boxes, heated cabinets, behavioural equipment (owned by Neuroscience department) 

  • Procedural rooms

  • Perfusion rooms

  • Surgery suite including prep area and recovery 

  • CO2 machines

  • Quarantine rooms with isolators

  • Microscopes for surgery and tissue work

  • Surgery drill

  • Table top autoclave for sterilising tools for surgery and isolators

  • MRI scanner with anaesthetic set up (owned by Radiology)

  • PET/CT scanner with anaesthetic set up (owned by MICL)

  • tdNMR (owned by DMC)
