These photographic guides should be used in conjunction with our Welfare Monitoring Tools to identify behaviours which indicate positive and negative welfare. Video guides to behaviour are also available.
This page provides access to searchable, hypertext listings of inbred strains of mice and inbred strains of rats. Both sets of information were provided by Dr. Michael FW Festing (MRC Toxicology Unit) and were converted for Web presentation by the Mouse Genome Informatics Group at The Jackson Laboratory.

The website is maintained by Norecopa. It covers all Three Rs, is in English and free of charge.
A celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the publication of The Principles of Humane Experimental Technique by W.M.S Russell and R.L. Burch. The film of this event, which featured some of the eminent scientists and researchers in the field of alternatives to animal testing, took place on November 22, 2019 at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, Maryland.
